Migrants, Refugees and Seafarers program
The Church has been celebrating the World Day of Migrants and Refugees (WDMR) since 1914. It is always an occasion to express concern for different vulnerable people on the move; to pray for them as they face many challenges. In the Diocese of Nakuru, the program started in 2013 through a training organised by KCCB Commission for Migrants, and Sea farers.
The mission of the pastoral care ministry is threefold: Bringing Christ’s compassion to people, intervene for people who have been wounded, and connecting people to the church and their faith communities. Organize pastoral programmes for Migrants, refugees, people on the road, and fishermen.
The program works with these groups:
Fishermen, refugees & migrants, prisoners, street families, truck drivers, and motorbike operators (boda boda).
OBJECTIVES
- To vigorously evangelize and offer pastoral care to migrants
- To empower pastoral agents with knowledge and skills to be practical and resourceful in matters of catholic faith
- To create awareness in the larger Christian community about the importance of the street evangelization
